Pornhub requires proof of consent and IDs for video uploads; aims to enhance safety
From January 23, performers on Pornhub will be obligated to provide proof of consent for any videos that include other individuals.

Pornhub is tightening its performer verification process, soon mandating proof of consent from scene partners along with their IDs. Previously, performers kept IDs and release agreements for all appearing in their content. As of last month, these IDs needed platform approval before uploading videos with new co-performers. The upcoming policy change, starting January 23, 2024, will add a consent proof requirement, such as signed release forms, for new co-performers.
An email from Pornhub outlined the new requirements for video approval, aiming to foster a safer platform for content creators and users. Various methods for co-performer verification include live face-scans with ID presentation, digital release form signing, or uploading ID and release form photos. Existing approved co-performers on an uploader’s account are exempt from these steps.
This policy shift follows a 2020 New York Times opinion piece highlighting child sexual abuse videos on Pornhub. After this revelation and pressure from anti-trafficking groups, Mastercard and Visa ceased services with Pornhub. The platform then deleted millions of unverified videos and barred unverified users from uploads and downloads, overhauling its moderation and verification processes, including third-party biometric identity checks.
Last month, Pornhub’s parent company Aylo, implicated in the Girls Do Porn case, reached a deferred prosecution agreement for not independently verifying consent and failing to remove requested videos. Now, Pornhub is considered one of the safest adult and user-generated sites in terms of consent verification. Other adult platforms, like Onlyfans, IWantClips, and ManyVids, have implemented similar policies requiring co-creator verifications, consent forms, and ID records.

Updated Community Guidelines: Clearer Guidance for Real Streaming Situations
We’ve updated the Community Guidelines to make them clearer, more transparent, and easier to use in everyday streaming situations.

We know it isn’t always easy to understand how a rule applies to a specific moment on camera. The updated Guidelines include clearer explanations and brand-new enforcement notes for relevant policy areas. These notes answer questions we hear most often.
Alongside these practical explanations, the update highlights a key principle behind moderation: context matters. We review the whole situation rather than isolated words, objects, or moments in a broadcast. A single unverified report does not trigger enforcement on its own.
Read the updated Community Guidelines to get a better sense of the platform’s boundaries and what to expect from moderation.
We’ve updated the Guidelines with your experience in mind. Tell us what you think in the community Discord and follow us on Telegram for quick platform news.
